FAQs
What is bail?
Bail is a sum of money or collateral that is paid to the court as a guarantee that the defendant will appear in court for their trial or other legal proceedings. If the defendant fails to appear in court, the bail money is forfeited and the defendant may be rearrested. The amount of bail is usually determined by the severity of the crime, the defendant's criminal history, and other factors related to the case.
Are bail and bond the same thing?
Bail is paid by the defendant or someone on their behalf to the court as security for the defendant's release until the trial. If the defendant does not have enough cash to pay the bail, they can go to a bail bond agency for help. The bail bond agency will post a bond on behalf of the defendant and pledge to make the full bail amount if the defendant fails to appear in court. So, the bond is essentially a guarantee made by the bail bond agency to ensure the defendant's attendance at court, while the bail is the actual amount of money paid to the court as security.
What happens if someone gets bond assistance, but then they do not appear in court?
When a bail bond agency posts a bond on behalf of a defendant, they become responsible for the full amount of the bond if the defendant fails to appear in court. In cases where the bond amount is high, the bail bond agency may require collateral to secure the bond. Collateral can include real estate, vehicles, or other assets of value that can be used to pay the bond if the defendant does not appear in court. This collateral provides an added incentive for the defendant to appear in court and fulfill their obligations.
What is your fee?
The fee for a bail bond service is typically a percentage of the bail amount, usually set by state law. In this case, the fee for You Call Bail Bond Agency's service is 10% of the amount of the bond, with a minimum fee of $50. So if the bond is set at $10,000, the fee would be $1,000.

How is the amount of bail determined?
The purpose of bail is to ensure that the defendant appears in court for their trial, and to protect the community from potential harm if the defendant is released. The judge will take into account the seriousness of the charges, the defendant's criminal record, ties to the community, employment status, and other factors that may affect the likelihood of the defendant appearing in court. If the judge determines that the defendant is a flight risk or a danger to the community, they may deny bail altogether.
How long does it take to get someone released?
It's important to note that the release time can vary greatly depending on the circumstances, including the defendant's criminal history, the severity of the crime, the workload of the court, and any other factors that may affect the case. Our agents work diligently to expedite the process and get our clients released as quickly as possible.
